Lea - Lioness

I speak like a giant
and roar like a mouse.
I quiver with intent
inside the walls of our house.
I'm the end of the beginning
and the traitor of youth.
Lean towards the far end;
rude, and uncouth.

a very quick note on white privilege and how reverse racism is NOT real. i have gotten over 40 messages in the past hours accusing me of reverse racism and telling me i am racist by saying whites should not have dreads.

I just busted this out in about two minutes without any planning - sorry if i use incorrect terminology. im pissed that so many people dont believe in white privilege.

so this is me ranting. im not a vloger so sorry if its awkward.

I love Pearly and this video is really important.

So much love and respect for you <3

You will never hear me disagree with the FACT of white privilege, it’s truth. But you people realize that in Jamaica (and other parts of the world) there are white Rastafarians, right? They are Jamaican (or not)…and Rasta…and they have dreads. And you never know when somebody has embraced Rasta, so to immediately decry every white person with dreads seems a little…silly. I’ve known a lot of Jamaicans and I would like to ask all you white folks out there if you were aware that Jamaica’s motto is “Out of Many, One People” because there are so many different cultures there? There are Hispanic, Black, White, Asian - all the colours of the rainbow. I have cousins who are Chinese-Jamaican with a White/Puerto Rican mom. And they have red hair (we don’t know how, genetics are weird). So…I mean, if they were Rastas with red hair and dreads you’d tell them no because…they look pretty white. I mean, really.

I’d actually like to hear Rastas sound in on this one more, I don’t think I’ve ever actually heard from them on the subject. And it is prejudiced and potentially racist when you make a blanket statement that all White people shouldn’t have dreads when you don’t seem to even know anything about the Rastafari Movement.

Note: Part of me really gets this and another part of me doesn’t. From my White heritage, if a Black dude were to put on lederhosen and drink beer I would just be happy to share part of my heritage with that person but in the same instance, from my Cherokee and Iroquois roots, when a bunch of privileged White kids put on feather headdresses I want to throttle them. My friend Marsha is Black Haitian (there are white Haitians too, kids) and she dressed up as Queen Elizabeth I, complete with white face and red wig. But she loves Queen Elizabeth, she knows tons about her. I mostly just thought it was hilarious (and the rest of my opinion on it was that it was awesome - plus I made her a feather fan and loaned her some jewelry). No offense taken on behalf of my White heritage.

…I guess mostly it’s about respect. Anything you come at from a place of respect, love and knowledge is a good place. Maybe that’s all I give a fuck about.
